This project was made by Ksenya.

Russian are very hospitable people. They meet their foreign guests with bread and salt as a symbol of hospitality.
The main dishes of the traditional menu are pancakes with honey, caviar or sour cream, different soups. Russian people eat brown bread with nearly every meal.
The greatest Russian love is tea with homemade jam, baranki and pirozhki.
They love to go to "banya" (bath) with steam and beat each other with birch branches - it is good for health.
The main holidays are New Year and Easter.

Dear Lyudmila,

I really like the video you put up on your fantastic blog. What is your favorite holiday in Russia?

Sincerely,
Nick

Dear Nick,

Thank you very much for your comment!
My favorite holiday is New Year because New Year is always connected with our new hopes and dreams. I believe that a miracle is a must on this day. And what about you?

Best wishes,
Lyudmila

Ksenya did a very good job with the presentation. I learnt about a new Holiday that I haven't heard about before. But beating each other with Birch Branches after a Bath sounds quite painful!

It isn't painful at all! Some people (if they live in a cottage and have their own banya) fall into snow after sitting in a steam banya in order to cool themselves:)

Dear Llyudmila,

Another great presentation for us to learn about Russia! Thank you. Like Nzwaikato, I was thinking that the birch branch beating didn't sound pleasant, but now I understand. What fun! Staying in the banya and then cooling of in the fresh snow! Sounds fantastic!

Thank you for the lovely message you left on our blog about our Edublog Award! We love learning with you and value your friendship!

Happy New Year!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Yollis
